Change to Win
Founded in Sept. 2005, Change to Win is a coalition of American labor unions that aims to create a new movement of workers who can meet the challenges of today's global economy. According to its website, Change to Win wants to restore the "American Dream" of receiving a pay check that covers healthcare costs, supports a family, guarantees retirement and garners respect on the job.
To restore the American dream, Change to Win wants to devote maximum resources, including at least 75% of the resources of the new labor federation, to attracting more union members. In addition, the collation strives to unite with allies to rally for basic American rights, particularly the right to a union, collective bargaining, affordable health insurance and retirement security. Globally, Change to Win wants to obtain full legal rights for immigrant workers and prohibit all forms of discrimination. In addition, the coalition pledges to connect with allies in other countries in negotiations with global businesses to increase the standard of living and gain respect for workers' rights worldwide.
Change to Win is made up of more than six million workers from seven labor unions, which are:
- Service Employees International Union
- International Brotherhood of Teamsters
- Unite Here
- United Food and Commercial Workers International Union
- United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America
- United Farm Workers of America
- Laborers' International Union of North America
With headquarters in Washington, D.C., Change to Win works with people across the globe to fight for issues such as workplace safety and healthcare. To learn more about Change to Win, please visit http://www.changetowin.org/ or call (202) 721-0660.
